Buying Yarn is SO Last Year…

Don’t get me wrong, I love buying yarn as much as any other crocheter or knitter, but as a small business owner, I’m always looking for ways to reduce my carbon footprint and use secondhand materials.

I mainly use t-shirt yarn, which is exactly what it sounds like: yarn made from t-shirts. These businesses will take off-cuts of fabric from the garment making process and cut it into strips. The result is durable, upcycled yarn that keeps waste out of landfills.

If you’ve been following my Tiktok or Instagram for a while, you may have seen me attempt to make my own t-shirt yarn.

I’ve been using t-shirt yarn ever since, and I’m never going back. The quality is unmatched, and I constantly get compliments on the durability and structure of my bags.

But as time passes, I continue looking for new ways to be more sustainable.

Enter: Bed Sheets

Some may call me crazy, but I’m just trying to save the world! The thing is, this is a great way to give unwanted fabric a second life. And hey, I’m not reinventing the wheel here, but if I can use my platform to encourage others to choose the more sustainable alternative, why not do it?

The question now is,

What am I gonna do with all this yarn!?

This new DIY venture has truly challenged my creativity. I feel so much closer to 2 of my goals:

  1. Make crocheting as sustainable as possible

  2. Redefining the possibilities of crochet

*Sigh* I know right!? I should’ve just been an accountant.

These new bags will be part of my next one-of-one collection. I’ll continue to source bed sheets and make one of a kind bags to drop this fall! Hoping to grab one? Stay up to date on all my socials and subscribe to the LOOSENDS newsletter!
