The History of The TRIANGLE Tote
It’s time to take a look back at how my new favourite design came to be.
Yes, it’s true, and it almost feels taboo, like how you shouldn’t pick a favourite child, but The TRIANGLE Tote might just be my new fav.
It may sound crazy, but this design basically fell into my lap. After the success of the DUSK Bag, I felt pressure to create more designs of equal acclaim. I’ve got pages and pages in my notebook of sketches for bags that never were (or haven’t yet been) but nothing seemed right.
See, when I’m designing, I have three key elements in mind: style, function and accessibility. Essentially I want a bag that is functional, looks cool, and is somewhat easy to replicate.
One thing I've learned about the creative process over the years is it’s never linear. Sure, you can try to get the ball rolling with tricks or exercises, but for me at least, ideas sometimes come out of the blue. Whilst sitting at my desk one day, scrolling through my phone, I saw a photo of a triangular bag on Pinterest.
Then it all clicked.
I was reminded of these granny square crochet bags, wherein you sew together three squares and add a handle. I also remembered screenshots of bags I had saved from random corners of TikTok. It felt like assembling a puzzle. I got to work trialing some designs, and before I knew it, I had a finished product!
The TRIANGLE Tote is the perfect addition to my product collection. It fits all the essentials, including my laptop, without sacrificing style. While The DUSK Bag is perfect for a party, a coffee date, or a nice day out, The TRIANGLE Tote is my all-day-long bag.
You can now make your OWN with the official pattern! It comes with both a PDF and video tutorial, so wether you’re an expert crocheter, or you just have some basic knowledge, this pattern is great for you!
