5 Trend Predictions Vogue Isn’t Telling You.

With the new year upon us, I thought it was only necessary to continue my tradition, and share with you my trend predictions for 2025. We’re talking all things fashion, yarn and sustainability.

Check out my short form video here!

Whenever I forecast a trend, I start by asking myself, “How can or will I incorporate this into my own practice?” because for me, if I have to sacrifice my own artistry in order to follow a trend, then I’m doing something wrong.

1. PANTONE’s Colour Of The Year: Mocha Mousse

As hard as I may try, I can’t ignore the influence that a brand like Pantone has on the arts community, so when they announced the ‘2025 Colour of The Year’ I knew I had to include it here. In a statement from the brand itself, by Laurie Pressman, Pantone describes the new colour as “[a] warming rich brown hue…with its suggestion of the delectable quality of cacao, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort.”

As Pressman puts it, “[t]here is a growing movement to align ourselves more closely with the natural world,” which is why we’re seeing a more neutral, subdued colour this year. For my brand, I’ll consider adapting my current ‘chocolate’ shade to a more luxe, refined brown with lighter undertones.

2. Accessories in Excess

I had to sneak this one in because it’s already a trend in my closet.

This idea comes as a result of the Birkin Bag Effect, which we saw rise to popularity on social media in the latter half of 2024. If you’re curious about my stance on that, check out my blog post here. (TL;DR I love it). Essentially, it’s all about collecting memories and putting them on display to personalize your items.

I think this personal touch is what so many of us have been missing in our wardrobes! In 2025, we'll start to see this ‘bag charm trend’ grow to new heights. Here’s how:

3. Crochet Homeware

In 2024, I saw tons of crocheters DIYing flower mirrors, and I think this was but a foreshadowing for a surge in crochet homewares.

When you think of crochet home decor, you probably think of things like table runners, flower coasters and pot cozies, but I think 2025 will bring us new and inventive takes of structuring our crochet pieces and making bold statements in our homes. Think rugs, tapestry, frames and pottery!

I found this creator a few months back and I’ve been hooked (no pun intended) on their creations!

4. Crochet Bags

Maybe I’m a little biased here, but I foresee crochet bags being huge this year! OK, maybe that’s a bit of a blanket statement, so let’s talk a bit more nuanced.

In 2024, I found myself experimenting with new ways of structuring my projects. When I look back at my most successful designs, like The TRIANGLE Tote and The DUSK Bag, two key identifiers in these works were distinct shapes and ribbing. Although I plan to continue to incorporate this elements into future designs, I think we will see more cinching and ruffles and although it’s not a bag, I’m really inspired by this skirt pattern from @subraina.

5. Thrifted & Upcycled Yarn

I’d consider this one more of a manifestation than a prediction. In 2025, I hope the narrative of ‘having a yarn addiction’ fizzles out. I know, we’re all guilty of feeding into it, but when I look at the fast fashion industry, I see this realization tons of consumers are having, where they buy and buy, but never seem fully satisfied with their clothes.

I think that the fiber arts community will begin to have this realization too this year, and opt for more sustainable options whenever possible.

LOOSENDS uses solely upcycled materials, mainly T-shirt Yarn, for all of our products.

Those are my trend predictions! What do you think?
